Every day Instagram adds new features and is now adding shopping tools, such as allowing people to search for products using images.
This definitely expands the e-commerce offerings in its family of apps.
When users click on images they see on Instagram, Facebook will direct them to the sale of products that are similar in appearance.
A user might click on a floral dress on the social network and find similar outfits being sold in Instagram stores.
These are stores hosted by the app from third-party companies; according to a company spokesperson.

Notably, the test will be later this year in the US.
Instagram’s plans to allow users to take a photo from their phone to initiate a visual search; is similar to technology already offered by Pinterest Inc, Google and Snap Inc.

«You might want to look at other products that are like that; or you want to figure out how to get that product. And that’s the kind of problem that AI can really help with,» he added.
Of note, the platform will also make it easier for some companies to offer trials with augmented reality technology. That is, so that people can see how products such as makeup and shoes look on their real bodies and faces; something that competitor Snapchat already brought during the covid-19 pandemic.
Facebook has prioritized the creation of e-commerce tools; to ensure that small businesses that had to close their physical stores during the pandemic develop the habit of selling their products online.
